About Laughter Yoga
Laughter Yoga was founded by Dr Madan Kataria, an Indian physician from Mumbai, in 1995. Based on the number of studies showing the profound physiological and psychological effects of laughter, Dr Kataria developed a unique exercise routine that combines group laughter with yoga breathing. What started with just five people in a public park, has become a movement of thousands of Laughter Yoga clubs around the world.
Laughter Yoga is based on the premise that the body cannot tell the difference between fake and real laughter. Laughter Yoga does not rely on humor or jokes, instead, laughter is simulated as an exercise in a group setting. Simulated laughter soons turns to real laughter, producing feelings of joy and relaxation. This simple, yet revolutionary, idea has been eagerly adopted around the world.
